Frequently asked questions

Does Kaya work offline?

Yes. SURVIVE — scenario phrasebooks, culture cards, tone trainer and your saved content — works fully offline once a language pack is on your device. Features that need the internet (camera translate, the AI partner, push-to-listen) fall back gracefully when you're offline.

Which languages are available?

Phase 1: Thai and Bahasa Indonesia, both offline-ready. Vietnamese, Japanese and Korean are coming soon.

Do I need an account?

No. Kaya works without an account — your progress is saved on your device. Sign in only if you want your trips, streaks and progress to sync across devices.

How do I create or change a trip?

On the My Trip tab, tap “Plan a trip” to set a destination and dates, or “Auto-detect my trips” to find flights in your calendar (we only read your calendar when you tap this, and it never leaves your device).

How do I delete my account and data?

Open Settings → Delete account. This permanently removes your account and all data from our servers. Deleting the app removes data stored on your device. See our account deletion page for details.

Why does Kaya ask for location / calendar / camera / microphone?

  • Location:to detect when you arrive at your trip destination and switch into in-trip mode. It's optional and stays on your device.
  • Calendar:only when you tap “Auto-detect my trips”, to find flights. Read on your device, never uploaded.
  • Camera: to translate signs and menus.
  • Microphone:to score your pronunciation and to “listen” and translate when you hold the button. No background listening.

You can change any of these in your device's app settings for Kaya.

How do subscriptions work? (THRIVE)

THRIVE is an auto-renewing subscription billed through your app store account (Apple App Store or Google Play). Manage or cancel anytime in your store's subscription settings. Cancel at least 24 hours before renewal to avoid the next charge.

How do I restore a purchase?

Open the app's subscription screen and tap “Restore purchases”, or reinstall and sign in with the same app store account.

The camera/microphone isn't working.

Check your device's app settings for Kaya and make sure the permission is enabled. These features also need a network connection for translation/transcription.
